The Redskins have been the poster child for teams in need of quality leadership over the past few years, and that was once again made apparent this morning, as cornerback DeAngelo Hall trashed the coaching staff’s decision to have him cover different receivers throughout each game.
“That’s how it was; it ain’t how it’s gonna be from here on out. I’m going wherever the [obscenity] ball is going. Wherever the receiver is going, that’s where the [obscenity] I’m going. It don’t matter what he [defensive coordinator Jim Haslett] say. This [is] my team. This [is] my defense. I’m gonna follow the receivers around. If we’ve got to do that to win games, that’s what I’m gonna do.”

While his desire to take charge of the defense is admirable, saying Haslett’s opinion on the matter is irrelevant is definitely problematic, as it sets the stage for a war of words to ensue as the season progresses, especially if Haslett forces Hall to stick with the program.
There’s little doubt that head coach Mike Shanahan will have to step in to sort the issue out eventually, as neither Hall or Haslett are likely to back down anytime soon.
