The first week of the 2010 season was disappointing to say the least for Denver, especially the play of their running back tandem of Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter, who combined for just 75 yards on 21 carries against a pedestrian Jaguars defense.
So rather than wait it out and hope for better production next week, the Broncos went out and got a player they feel will be capable of stepping in quickly and providing a nice option on the ground throughout the remainder of the season, in running back Lawrence Maroney.
Denver acquired Maroney earlier this afternoon from New England, along with a sixth round pick in next year’s draft, sending their fourth round selection in the same draft back to the Patriots.
It’s doubtful that Maroney will be ready to contribute significantly next Sunday, but his versatility should be a big help to the Broncos as the season progresses. Either way, having him on the roster is much better than suffering with Buckhalter unable to produce on the field consistently.
