Shortly after San Francisco’s devastating blowout loss in Kansas City, head coach Mike Singletary made it clear that he stood behind offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye, and that any decision on his future with the team would come in the off-season.
But less than 24 hours later, the 49ers reversed their opinion on Raye and fired him from his position with the team this morning, according to NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora. San Francisco is expected to promote quarterbacks coach Mike Johnson to take over for Raye.
The 49ers are hovering just above last place in the league for scoring offense, with just 12.7 points per game so far this year, making Raye’s dismissal less than surprising.
Raye is a former player and long tenured coach in the NFL with time spent in seven different cities, including Kansas City and New England.
