Headed into his 16th season in the NFL, wide receiver Joey Galloway isn’t ready to hang up his cleats just yet, even though he’s old enough (theoretically speaking) to be the father of his youngest teammates.
On Wednesday, the Redskins signed Galloway to a one year contract, giving them a much needed veteran presence, with a solid work ethic and attitude to pair with recently acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb. While it’s obvious that this move wasn’t made in the expectation that Galloway would have a breakout season, Washington is hopeful that Galloway can provide them with the big plays offensively that have eluded them in recent years.
Galloway is known for his ability to stretch the field, even at his age (38), and should keep defenses honest at the very least, unless they wish to find out the hard way if he can still bring it. That said, he hasn’t caught a touchdown pass in over two seasons, and is somewhat of a long shot to make the final roster when things are all said and done later on this summer.
Either way, the Redskins now have a few solid influences back it their locker room, something they’ve been lacking for a long period of time now, and hopefully will put forth a better effort this fall, with or without Galloway out on the field.
