The 49ers have given quarterback Shaun Hill permission to seek a trade, effectively putting him up on the trading block heading into next month’s draft.
San Francisco recently signed former No. 1 overall pick David Carr to be the new backup option to former No. 1 pick Alex Smith, who experienced a career resurgence last season that likely saved his career.
Hill has a 10-6 record with 3,490 yards, 23 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and an 87.3 quarterback rating as a starter for the 49ers. If no trade can be reached the 49ers will likely cut ties with their most productive signal caller over the past three seasons.
Teams likely to be interested include Arizona, St. Louis, Seattle, Cleveland, New Orleans, and Carolina, as Hill is a very appealing option due to his previous starting experience.
