Just two seasons removed from a breakout campaign, Browns quarterback Derek Anderson has officially worn out his welcome in Cleveland.
According to multiple sources, Anderson’s contract with the team has been terminated today, making him a free agent capable of signing with any team of his choice. The Browns likely granted Anderson his release now in large part to avoid a $2 million roster bonus he was due on March 19th, but also to better facilitate his signing with another club.
The Browns are now likely to stick with a combination of Brady Quinn and the recently acquired Seneca Wallace at quarterback, although it is possible that they could jettison Quinn as well prior to the draft. In that scenario, Cleveland would then do their best to select on of Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen, both of which could be available when they pick at the #7 overall selection.
Teams likely to be interested in signing Anderson include Seattle, Arizona, Washington, and St. Louis.
