Speculation continues regarding the Bears’ supposed desire to move veteran defensive end Alex Brown, and the latest string of reports has suggested the Seahawks are a leading candidate to trade for the longtime Chicago player. If the Bears had not acquired prized free agent Julius Peppers earlier in the signing period, they would probably not have been under the spotlight in terms of what to do with Brown, but his age, salary, and position on the depth chart are all factors in his expected departure. Originally a fourth-round draft choice in 2002, Brown has a career mark of 309 tackles and 43.5 sacks.
The Seahawks are rumored to be interested in Brown primarily because they recently rid of starting-caliber defender Darryl Tapp via a trade with the Eagles, and could use some quality pass-rushing help. Brown, who had six sacks last season, would surely benefit their defensive efforts; the only question is whether Seattle is willing to give up enough in order to acquire the defender.
