For the better part of his career, Orlando Pace was dominant in protecting his quarterback’s blind side. But after a miserable season filled to the brink with frustration in the Windy City, Pace is on the outside looking in, getting the word earlier today that his first year in Chicago will also be his last.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears have decided to release the seven time Pro Bowler, choosing to move forward with third year tackle Chris Williams instead. Pace will likely spend some time in the coming weeks, choosing between retirement or another shot at glory, and given his overall health, it will be hard to imagine the latter coming to fruition anytime soon.
If he does decide to come back for another season, Pace could find himself a job with a team in need of quality depth up front and veteran leadership in the locker room. Teams likely to fit that list include Pittsburgh, Seattle, Kansas City, and Buffalo.
