10 seasons ago, the Raiders shocked many around the league when they selected kicker Sebastian Janikowski in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft, as it was only the third time that had happened in league history.
Since his arrival in Oakland, Janikowski has consistently been among the league’s best in kickoff distance and range on field goal tries, making him one of the more valuable players on the Raiders roster.
With that in mind, Oakland has reached an agreement with Janikowski to make him the league’s highest paid kicker, with a four year deal worth an estimated $16 million. Janikowski was scheduled to be a free agent this off-season, but will now stay in the Bay Area with Oakland until 2014 at the least, unless the Raiders choose to release him a point prior to that season.
