You can certainly file this rumor under the speculative at best category if you like, but there is at least one source in the Los Angeles area that believes an agreement between Pete Carroll and Seattle is already in place (H/T to SPORTSbyBROOKS)
According to the Los Angeles Daily News, sources close to the situation at USC are saying that Carroll is definitely on his way out of town, with a contract in principle agreed to with the Seahawks. He has not yet informed the university of his decision to leave, but the deal is all but complete, with both sides hammering out the final details and awaiting an interview of a minority candidate to satisfy the Rooney Rule.
Seattle was supposed to speak with Minnesota defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier in the very near future, but there are conflicting reports as to whether Frazier actually wants to interview with the Seahawks, given the fact that his chances are slim to none for actually taking home the position. One way or another though, Seattle will have to discuss the job with a minority candidate, and unless they back off a bit from Carroll, they may have some trouble doing that.
Obviously, this story has all kinds of legs, and could potentially swing back in a completely opposite direction, but for now it definitely seems as though it’s Carroll’s job to lose. As always, we’ll keep you up to date when more info breaks.
