2:22 am – According to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, the decision to leave the the Seahawks now was made by Ruskell on his own, after discussing his future with team owner Paul Allen.
Apparently, Allen advised Ruskell that it was highly unlikely that they would be bringing him back next season, and rather than wait until the off-season to have things wrapped up, Ruskell resigned immediately.
2:04 am – For some time now, there has been plenty of speculation on the future of Seattle general manager Tim Ruskell, and while the team continued to deny all the reports, the indicators of a possible move to oust him from his position grew each day.
All of that will become moot tomorrow afternoon, as sources close to the organization have confirmed that the Seahawks asked Ruskell to step down and rather than make things messy by refusing to do so, Ruskell took the high road and resigned. Ruskell had been given no serious consideration for a contract extension with the club, as his current deal was set to expire at the end of this season, and given the Seahawks poor play over the past few seasons, it was widely expected that he would take the fall for the team’s lack of success.
An official press conference to explain the decision has been tentively scheduled for 1:00 pm EST.
We’ll have much more on this move tomorrow when more information becomes available, but for the time being it’s safe to say that this wasn’t an unexpected move on Seattle’s part. Someone had to accept responsibility and in the end, that person was Ruskell.
