After watching his team waltz into the locker room, with just lead of just 7-6 at the half of Sunday night’s contest against the Panthers, Minnesota head coach Brad Childress was furious and he let the players have it in his half time speech. Considering the way the Vikings performed over the course of the second half, it’s apparent that not many players took his message to heart.
According to Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press, Childress unleashed a tirade of epic proportions directed at the team in the half-time locker room, and carried his anger over into the next two quarters as well, shouting at quarterback Brett Favre along the sideline, and threatening at multiple points to bench Favre in favor of backup quarterback Tavaris Jackson.
After the game was over and the Vikings had trudged off the field as recipients of a 26-7 beatdown, Favre spoke with the media and shared his frustration over Childress’ antics on the sideline. That apparently did not sit well with the already enraged Childress, who then proceeded to rip into Favre individually in the post game locker room, hurling countless expletives and insults at the future Hall of Fame QB.
Obviously, this entire episode will be rendered meaningless if the Vikings move on and wrap up the #2 seed in the playoffs with a strong showing in their next two games, but it does paint a picture of less than perfect harmony in Minnesota, and could derail their Super Bowl aspirations if the team is unable to come together as a whole.
