Interesting tidbit of info to pass along on Mike Holmgren’s chances of landing in Cleveland, courtesy of Seattle Times beat writer Danny O’Neil…
During his weekly spot on KJR 950-AM in Seattle, Holmgren was asked about his talks with the Browns and relayed that he “had a good feeling” before leaving town and believes a resolution will be coming forward “sooner than later.”
Obviously, that doesn’t necessarily mean a deal between the two sides is on its way right now, but it certainly paints a rosy picture of Holmgren’s opinion towards Cleveland’s situation and sets the stage for the former Seahawks head coach to take charge of the struggling franchise this off-season.
Having Holmgren come to the Browns would likely spell the end of current head coach Eric Mangini’s tenure with the club, as Holmgren would almost certainly prefer to bring in his own guy to run things on the field, rather than tie his fortunes to Mangini. That said, the opinions of key players already in Cleveland would definitely carry some weight in that discussion, with most of the team coming out in support of Mangini’s continued employment.
Either way, things are beginning to heat up now that the regular season is winding down, and it’s going to be interesting to watch as it all unfolds in Cleveland this off-season. As always, we’ll be there from start to finish, with the latest news as it breaks on this and every other story hitting the wire.
