Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star weighed in earlier today (via Twitter) with comments made by Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson, indicating he is extremely unhappy with head coach Todd Haley and his staff, especially after Tuesday’s trade deadline came and went with him staying put on the bench in Kansas City for the time being (H/T to NFP)
Here’s a sampling of what he had to say:
“It sucks. It kind of sucks to not be starting and not be playing like I should.”
“Coach knows I want to play. He knows I disagree with not playing. He knows that.”
“I should be out there playing. I should be out there starting. I should be out there helping this team win.”
A former first round pick in 2006, Johnson has shown flashes of brilliance from time to time, but never the level of consistent production expected of a player with his talent. Haley has made no secret of his desire to see Johnson live up to his potential, but has remained adamant on the point of keeping Johnson on the bench until he can prove he is capable of playing hard and not making mistakes.
Johnson will be a free agent at the end of the season and most certainly will leave to play elsewhere. Teams that would likely vie for his services include Tennessee, Chicago, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, and possibly St. Louis.
