Beginning the season 3-0, Jets fans had reason to believe this year’s team was destined for great things. After losing their third straight game (and second straight to a division rival) on Sunday at home against Buffalo, those feelings have dissipated somewhat, but even the most skeptical fan in New York will always say their Jets have a shot.
It will be hard to keep singing the same tune after the news today, as the Jets medical staff came back with terrible results on starting nose tackle Kris Jenkins. According to the Associated Press, Jenkins will be out for the remainder of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during the loss to the Bills.
Jenkins is a four time Pro Bowler at his defensive tackle position, and his loss will certainly diminish the Jets’ chances at taking home the division title in head coach Rex Ryan’s rookie season. New York has two games remaining before their BYE in week nine, travelling to Oakland (2-4) next week and facing off once more against Miami (2-3) at home in the Meadowlands.
