Cheaper alternative? Curry will take less to be first pick
Pat Kirwan (NFL.com) sat down with Wake Forest LB Aaron Curry earlier today on his radio show to talk about his feelings on his status heading into this weekend’s draft, and came away from the interview with the distinct impression that Curry is more than willing to be paid less money over the course of his contract if the Lions decide to draft him #1 overall.
Detroit is currently in negotiations with Curry’s agents, however they are also working closely with the representatives for both QB Matt Stafford and OT Jason Smith, so not much can be read into that right now. If the Lions end up taking Curry, he would join a LB corp that is vastly improved from a year ago, lining up next to Julian Peterson and Ernie Sims. That, along with the discount it seems that Curry is willing to take, would make a strong case for the Lions to take him, but it remains to be seen what Detroit’s brass decides to do.
