Drama in Denver with Cutler carries on

A week ago, the Denver Broncos insisted that everything was fine between them and their franchise QB Jay Cutler. They’re likely rethinking that assessment today, after a conference call between Cutler and the team’s front office yesterday apparently went south in a hurry.

Citing a source with knowledge of the call, Bill Williamson (ESPN) believes the two sides are even further apart now than what they were a few days back, after the team allegedly indicated to Cutler that he was to blame for the media mishap that has taken place over the past two weeks.

Cutler came away from the talk angry once again, and evidently feels he will not be with the club after the 2009 draft takes place on April 25 of this year. At this point, it is likely that Cutler will refuse to report to the team’s off-season workouts, which could force the Broncos into taking more drastic measures.

Several teams have expressed serious interest in acquiring Cutler, who was voted to his first Pro Bowl last season. Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and Detroit top the list of potential suitors, but there are quite possibly a few more clubs that would be willing to part with the compensation package needed to pry Cutler loose from Denver.
