The next two weeks will set the stage for what Houston is likely to do on draft day, as they’ll be working overtime to get pending free agent CB Dunta Robinson re-signed before he hits the open market.
If they’re unsuccessful, the loss of Robinson could pre-determine the direction the team will need to go in both free agency and in the draft, which is something the they would prefer to avoid, according to John McClain (Houston Chronicle).
While Robinson hasn’t exactly been a standout performer for the team, the Texans have so little quality depth at the position that his departure in free agency will force Houston into signing at least one free agent and using a high round pick on a top level CB in the draft. That proposition could be difficult to swallow for the club, as the class of free agent corners is weak this year and any prospect taken in the draft could be hit or miss.
