Broncos dump dead weight; save a ton of cash

Denver made several interesting moves earlier this evening, opting to release DE John Engelberger, TE Nate Jackson, LB Niko Koutouvides, S Marquand Manuel, DT Dewayne Robertson and LB Jamie Winborn.

While few if any of these players would have played major roles with the team next fall, seeing Robertson on this list is a bit of a shocker, that is until you read a bit further and see that he would have cost the Broncos $16 million to keep next season. Teams reserve that kind of cash for franchise QBs or stud DEs, not for washed up 1st round busts like Robertson, so it’s a move that makes complete sense from the Broncos point of view.

Newly hired head coach Josh McDaniels has started the house cleaning process in Denver, and it’s doubtful that we’ll see many players hanging around that are not worth their cost to the team in the near future.
