Tim Graham (ESPN) is reporting that Bill Parcells will remain in his position as the Dolphins president of football operations for the upcoming season. Speculation had been running wild ever since the escape clause in Parcells’ contract became public knowledge.
Parcells spoke with reporters from the New York Post yesterday on the subject:
“My intention is to do what I’ve been doing. I think we will have ample time to figure each other out. I’m very optimistic.”
“I’ve had two or three meetings with Steve Ross and he seems to be a guy who wants to do things the right way. There will be a period of adjustment. He’s got to find out about the business. We are going to try and make things work. I’m not doing this forever.”
By selling his majority stake in the franchise, former owner Wayne Huizenga opened the door for Parcells to leave the team and collect his salary at the same time. But Parcells’ was consistent in his approach with the media, never once giving any credence to the notion that he would jump ship from a Miami squad that shocked the league last season by posting an 11-5 record and a berth in the playoffs.
